Our Mission
At Love is Bald, we are more than just a charity. We are a community-driven 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to supporting and uplifting individuals who have been affected by cancer. Through our tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to upholding our core values, we strive to make a tangible difference in the lives of those navigating the challenges of cancer.
Our mission is clear: to provide holistic support, compassion, and resources to those on their cancer journey. We offer a range of vital services, from emotional support to financial assistance, and everything in between.
Love is Bald stands as a beacon of hope for individuals and families facing the hardships brought on by cancer. We believe in empowering, comforting, and standing in solidarity with those fighting this battle.
But Why?
It has been said that 'Friends are the most important ingredient in the recipe of life.' Love Is Bald is a heartfelt tribute to this sentiment. This non-profit organization sprouted from the loving bonds of friends in the Wilmington, NC community, who experienced the loss of a cherished ingredient in their circle of friendship – Peyton Dergay. Peyton, an absolutely remarkable human, lost her battle with cancer in 2004. True to the essence of a best friend, Peyton brought out the best in others, and her memory continues to inspire and uplift others through the work of Love Is Bald.
Kelli Russell, Allen Williford, and their close-knit group of friends understood that the best way to honor Peyton's love, compassion, and friendship was to establish an organization dedicated to giving back. Year after year, Peyton's friends come together to celebrate her enduring spirit through local events, raising funds to support cancer patients and their families. Since its inception in 2010, Love Is Bald has provided invaluable assistance to numerous families in the Port City and RDU Triangle by supporting organizations like Pink Heals Cape Fear, Steve Haydu Lo Tide Run, Lump to Laughter, Hope Abounds, and the Hoggard High School Scholarship Fund.
In the journey of creating this organization, we came to realize that we are no different from anyone else, as cancer touches the lives of us all in some way. With this awareness, we hold dear four fundamental principles:
(1) To honor the memory of Peyton Dergay,
(2) To tirelessly give back to our community,
(3) To perpetually celebrate the gift of life, and
(4) To forever cherish the blessings we have, never taking anything for granted.
This organization stands for more than mere assistance; it's about fostering hope, coming together as a community, and standing as a beacon of support for those on their challenging battle against cancer.
Cheers,
Love is Bald Team
